How Much Does a Cleaner Cost in Melbourne?
What drives the price of a house clean, what our own rates are, and how to tell if a quote is fair.
"How much for a clean?" is the first question almost everyone asks, and the honest answer is: it depends on a handful of things you can see in advance. Here's how pricing works, using our own published rates as the worked example.
What decides the price
- Time on site. Most cleaning is priced by the hour, so anything that adds time adds cost.
- Size of the home. Bedrooms and especially bathrooms add time.
- When it was last cleaned. A first clean after months is a different job to a weekly visit.
- Type of clean. Regular upkeep, a once-off, a deep clean or an end of lease each take different amounts of time.
- Extras. Inside the oven, fridge, windows, cupboards, balconies.
- Day of the week. Weekend work usually costs more because of penalty rates.
Our published rates (inner north Melbourne)
- Regular or once-off clean: $110 for the first 2 hours (2-hour minimum), then $45 per hour.
- Deep clean or end of lease: from $385.
- Saturdays: a $15 per hour surcharge. Sundays are by appointment.
- Regular bookings: weekly, fortnightly and monthly visits are discounted on our booking page.
Every online price is an estimate. For cleaning we complete a free site inspection first (within our service area), then agree the final price with you before any clean goes ahead.
Why the cheapest quote can cost more
A very low hourly rate usually means one of three things: no insurance, workers who aren't being paid properly, or a quote that grows once the job starts. Compare what's included, not just the number. Our guide How to choose a good cleaner lists what to check.
How to compare two quotes fairly
- Ask each for the hours they expect, not just a total.
- Get the checklist so you're comparing the same work.
- Check insurance, police checks and the guarantee.
- Ask what happens if the job takes longer than quoted.
Ways to keep the cost down
- Book regular visits: a home that's kept up takes less time each visit.
- Tidy (not clean) before the cleaner arrives, so their time goes on cleaning.
- Only add the extras you need this visit; rotate them.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a regular clean take?
For many 2-bedroom homes a regular clean is around 2 to 3 hours; larger homes, more bathrooms or a long gap since the last clean add time. Your estimate on our booking page shows the hours.
Do I pay before or after the clean?
With Silv's, after. No payment is taken to book; you pay once the service is complete, by PayID, cash or card (2.9% card fee).
Why is end of lease cleaning more expensive?
It's a top-to-bottom job including inside the oven, rangehood and cupboards, so it takes much longer than a regular clean.
